Eclipser starts with the question “Should we trust the landscape unfolded before our eyes?” The dictionary defines eclipser as ‘a man snatching the brilliance’ or ‘a man surpassing it.’ This work may be a game being played at Han River Park in Seoul; the sunlights are reflected on a mirror only to ‘erase’ or ‘suspend’ the real landscape temporarily.
Eclipser(빛을 빼앗는자 혹은 황도)는 ‘현재 우리 눈 앞에 펼쳐진 풍경을 과연 믿어야 하는가?’ 라는 질문에서 시작한 작업이다. ‘eclipser’의 사전적 의미는 ‘광채를 뺏는 사람’ 혹은 ‘능가하는 사람’을 일컫는다. 이 작업은 거울 조각으로 태양 빛을 반사시켜 상대방의 눈(혹은 게임속 카메라 맨의 렌즈 앞)에 비추는 놀이로 진행되었다. 수용자의 눈(카메라 렌즈)에 빛이 수용되는 순간! 수용자의 보는 행위는 일시적으로 ‘정지/소거’ 되고, ‘보는 행위에 대한 시각 정지’, ‘인식적 판단유보’를 하는 상태에 이르게 된다. 더불어 ‘보기의 무한한 확장 가능성'으로 전환하게 된다. 이 놀이는 이미 익숙해진 '보기' 방식에 대한 리셋(reset) 행위였다.
