I am saddened for family, friends and countrymen who, accepting their suffering, try to endure their fate as best they can. The Forest of Solace pays homage to their sacrifice and endurance, and depicts nature as a place of meditation and consolation. The forest and nature will embrace their trauma and comfort them like a mother’s arms.
현재 처해진 삶의 운명을 받아들이며 묵묵히 살아가는 나의 형제, 누이, 친구들의 모습을 볼 때면, 나는 무척이나 애처롭고 슬프다. 이들은 이미 운명지어진 현재의 조건과 한계에서 생존을 위해 끊임없이 견디며 현재를 이겨 내고 있다. <위안의 숲>은 이들의 고달픈 마음을 위로해 주기 위한 작업이다. 잠시, 현실의 짐을 털어버리고, 켜켜히 묵혀둔 감정의 상흔을 마치 어머니와 같은 품으로 보듬어 주고자 하였다.
